Hello, I’m Angela — founder of Miriam Bella.
I grew up in the village of Lelmokwo in rural Kenya, where our workshop now stands. Over the years, I’ve watched families around me struggle more and more to make ends meet. As farmland gets divided and agriculture becomes harder to rely on, many are left with little to fall back on.
I started Miriam Bella because I couldn’t ignore what was happening in my own community. I wanted to create something that gave people hope — a way to earn a living, learn new skills, and take pride in their work.
My journey took me from Kenya to Perth, where I studied computer science and economics, then across the U.S., working in tech. But deep down, I always felt called to do something with more heart. When I returned to Australia and settled in Melbourne, I knew it was time to build something that mattered — something that could give back.
Today, our team in rural Kenya includes more than 15 artisans, women and men we’ve trained to become shoemakers, beaders, and quality experts. We use locally sourced leather, cotton, and beads to handcraft limited-edition pieces that are bold, beautiful, and built to last.
Miriam Bella is a blend of everything I love: colour, culture, craftsmanship, and purpose. I hope when you wear our shoes, they not only brighten your day but remind you that every step you take has the power to make a difference.
Thank you for being part of our story
Angela
